Driving Innovation: Stainless Steel Prototype Delivered Against the Odds

When a UK domestic appliance company needed urgent stainless steel prototypes for product evaluation trials in China, Penta Precision overcame design changes and tight deadlines to deliver on time and to spec.

Background

A UK-based domestic appliance manufacturer approached us for urgent stainless steel R&D pre-production prototypes. These components were critical for manufacturing technique validation and product evaluation trials in China.

The Challenge

The requirement was complex:

  • The design was still being finalised at the point of quotation.
  • The requested turnaround time was just 13 working days.
  • Stainless steel material lead times alone were typically three to five days.

On top of this, our shop floor was already managing multiple tight production schedules.

Our Assessment

We carefully reviewed the requirements and confirmed that, despite these constraints, we could meet the original timescale from receipt of order through to finalised design. The risk was high, but we knew the importance of supporting the customer’s development project.

The Penta Solution

Once the order was placed, the project faced an additional hurdle: a further seven-day delay while the prototype design was reworked. This left even less time to complete production.

Our team responded with flexibility and commitment. As soon as the final go-ahead was received, we prioritised the job, applied our stainless steel machining expertise, and completed the work in under ten working days—ensuring the customer had the prototypes ready for their trials in China.

The Outcome

By adapting quickly to changing requirements and delivering high-quality prototypes on time, we enabled the customer to progress their product development without delay. The project demonstrated not only our machining capability but also our ability to remain reliable under pressure.
