Production Administrator & Stock Controller

Location: Portchester, Hampshire
Salary: £33,000 - £40,000 (depending on experience)
Type: Full-time | Permanent

Production admin roles are common. This one has real scope.

You’ll own the flow of paperwork, stock, and purchasing that keeps a precision engineering factory running. It’s a broad, hands-on role with genuine responsibility — at a company that supplies aerospace, defence, and medical customers. If you’re organised, proactive, and want a role where your work visibly matters, read on.

Please note that we do not offer sponsorship and therefore candidates must have the legal right to live and work in the UK to be considered. It is essential also that candidates live within a commutable distance from Fareham to be considered for this role.

The role

You’ll sit at the centre of production administration, stock control, and logistics. You’ll work closely with production management and the wider team to keep materials, paperwork, and suppliers aligned with the schedule.

  • Production coordination: help create works order documentation, manage changes to production paperwork, check and complete works orders
  • Sub-contract and purchasing: raise and manage sub-con and raw material purchase orders, chase suppliers, align delivery timescales with production needs
  • Stock control: run regular stock takes for raw materials and finished goods, manage inventory allocations
  • Supplier management: communicate with suppliers on call-off orders, prepare courier and customs documentation for inbound and outbound shipments
  • Logistics leadership: coordinate the day-to-day logistics and distribution function, covering where needed during peak times or absence
  • Continuous improvement: flag issues early, contribute to daily and weekly team meetings, help develop and follow lean, documented processes

What we need from you

  • Experience in a production administration, stock control, or materials management role — ideally in manufacturing or engineering
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail; you’ll be managing multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
  • Confident with IT systems — MRP/ERP, stock management software, and Microsoft Office
  • A clear communicator who can work well with production, sales, and external suppliers
  • Experience with sub-contract purchasing or supplier management is a strong advantage
  • A team player with a continuous improvement mindset who takes ownership and gets things done
