1. What services do you offer?
Penta offers all manner of machining services from CNC to manual milling and turning. We also offer a machining design advice service and a one-stop shop for all your finishing needs.

We service a wide range of industries, from aerospace to electronics and pharmaceutical to defence.

3. I see you are ISO 9001:2015 accredited but what does that mean?
ISO is an international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS). This system helps us to provide a consistent standard of product and service. We are regularly audited to ensure we are consistently meeting the standard.
4. What batch quantities do you deal with?

Penta’s batch quantities range from 1-off prototype to 1000s-off production quantities. We find our sweet spot is between 10 and 500-off.
5. What locations do you cover?
We are based in Portsmouth on the south coast but have customers across the whole length and breadth of the UK. Sorry, we are unable to serve international customers.
6. What delivery arrangements can I expect?
Components are generally put on a next day service with a national courier. Larger items are sent on pallets. We will contact you during the quoting process to assess your individual delivery requirements.
7. How quickly can I expect to receive a quote?
It is our aim to provide a detailed quote 24/48 hrs after initial contact. This can vary depending on how complex the components are and how many line items are on the RFQ.
8. How are your quotes calculated?
Unlike many of our competitors, our quotes are properly calculated; our estimators are all time-served machinists and therefore look at each part with a view on how to machine the component. Using this knowledge a routing is compiled, a bill of materials (BOM) is formed and we give an accurate costing of the job. Doing this also helps us to give you an accurate lead time for your project.
9. I do not have a full CAD drawing of my part – can you still help me?
This is becoming more the norm in the industry. Penta can provide multiple services to help with this scenario. We can reverse engineer a physical component and create electronic files from this. We can also take 3D models and machine directly from this (STP file preferred).
10. What are your machining parameters?
Milling max size: (Allowances need to be made for tools)
X travel = 1000mm, Y travel = 475mm, Z travel = 550mm
X travel = 760mm, Y travel = 600mm, Z travel = 550mm
Turning max size:
Ø260mm Billet x 550mm length
Bar feed = Ø2.5” (Ø63.5mm) x 300mm
11. What file formats do you accept drawings in?
PDF 2D drawings work the best.
2D DXF files required for production
3D STP (preferred) or IGS file required for production
12. What are your payment terms?
For new customers we ask for the first 3 orders to be paid by pro forma and then a credit account application is submitted for approval.
13. Will I have a dedicated account manager?
Yes! All of our customers are assigned an account manager when you first instruct us to undertake work. This means that you will have a dedicated point of contact for any queries or future quotes.
However rest assured that all of our estimation team are experienced engineers and so you are in safe hands no matter who you speak to.
14. What are your operating hours?
For enquiries, our office is staffed Monday – Thursday 7.30 – 17.00 and Friday 7.30 – 12.30
