6063 Guide: Properties, Applications and Design Considerations

__________

What is 6063?

6063 aluminium is a medium strength aluminium alloy, often referred to as an architectural alloy. It is most commonly used in the 6063T6 temper which is solution heat treated and artificially aged. 6063A is a variation of the alloy with greater strength.

6063 is generally supplied in standard extrusions, tube, bar and rod.

When extrusion is required, 6063T6 aluminium is mainly used when a standard stock shape such as right angled extrusion or square box section can be used for an application. When a standard off the shelf product such as these cannot be used and a more bespoke product is required we advise customers to consider using 6082T6 or for a more high tensile strength product 7075T6 would be advisable.
